Facilities
About
At Sacred Heart we are proud of our excellent facilities which enhance our commitment to an excellent education.
Outdoors:
We have invested in a rich and varied outdoor environment for all our children to enjoy. Our grounds provide a mix of playground and green areas to encourage imaginative play and provide active and restful areas.
The MUGA (Multi Use Games Area) and brightly painted playground games make for fun and safe playtimes, while our on-site adventure trail keeps active children busy and occupied!
Team games and summer sports days are held on our large sports field.
We enhance our lessons with fresh air and green views from our beautiful outdoor classroom, which the children love.
And we are particularly proud of our dedicated woodland area, where the children experience exciting and inspiring hands-on outdoor learning. ‘Wild Hearts’ sessions take place every Friday afternoon with a variety of forest-school type activities. Every half term a different class heads out to enjoy our beautiful surroundings.
Sacred Heart’s wonderful parent-led school association has recently raised funds for a new Well-being garden in our school grounds.
Indoors:
We use tools and technology like iPads and interactive whiteboards to support our learning.
Children are encouraged to use our large and sunny library, which is well stocked with books and materials for all ages and reading abilities.
We love music at Sacred Heart! We stage several pupil productions each year, and we encourage all our children to take part, whether through performance or assisting with lighting and scenery.
Extra curricular:
At Sacred Heart we offer extra curricular activities every day of the week. These range from after school sports clubs, art and craft clubs, lego club, Harry Potter club, and a school band.
Wrap around care:
Larks and Nightingales, our on-site wrap around care club, provides flexibility for working parents. Children can attend from 7.30am before school, until 6pm after school. It is the only OFSTED-rated outstanding wrap around care provider in Ilkley.
School Bus:
Two dedicated yellow school bus services from WY Metro means we can welcome children from as far afield as Addingham, Burley in Wharfedale and Menston. They travel to school safely supervised. Many of our parents feel it encourages children’s confidence and independence.
