Physical Education is a priority at Sacred Heart and we are lucky enough to employ a specialist sports coach. We deliver a high-quality physical education curriculum, which aims to inspire all children to succeed and excel in competitive sport and other physically-demanding activities.
We believe it’s important that our children have the opportunity to take part in a wide variety of sports so they can improve their fitness, discover what they are good at, and gain confidence by finding something they really enjoy – whatever their ability.
Children learn that being active is fun and that it is important to lead an active, healthy lifestyle to maintain good well-being.
In Reception, children learn the basic skills of spatial awareness, and movement skills to develop their gross and fine motor skills.
In Key Stage One and Two, PE covers the four main areas of PE, which are games, dance, gymnastics and athletics. There is also a focus on the 3 Fundamental Movement Skills; agility, balance and co-ordination. Key Stage Two also have lessons in swimming and outdoor/adventure activities.
There are numerous opportunities for our children to represent our school and compete in a variety of sports including football (girls and boys), cross country tag rugby, Kwik cricket, hockey, rounders and netball.
Since 2013, every primary school has been given extra money in their budget to spend exclusively on PE. The Sports Funding has increased the enjoyment of and participation in sports at our school through the following ways;
- Improving the quality of the school PE programme.
- Increasing the number of children taking part in extracurricular sports activities.
- Enabling children to take part in a range of sporting activities off site.
- Providing specialist coaches to deliver specific sporting activities,
- Entering teams of children from Key Stage one and two to represent the school in a variety of sports competitions through the schools partnership programme
The following documents explain how the money has been spent at Sacred Heart and the impact it has had.
